Wayne Rooney sent off for violent conduct in loss vs. New York Red Bulls

D.C. United’s Wayne Rooney was shown red midway through the first half with a violent forearm shiver on Michael Murillo as D.C. United drop their second straight game since beating the LA Galaxy. The Red Bulls’ Amro Tarek was also sent off in the first half in what was a contentious game from start to finish. Ola Kamara made the score 1-1 with an absolute stunner of a goal from outside the box, but the Red Bulls were awarded a dubious penalty soon after and Daniel Royer slotted home the winning goal from the spot.
